Dawn McConnell
Greetings. My name is Dawn McConnell and I have had the absolute pleasure of being part of
this amazing community for the past 34 years and have dedicated my career to education
throughout that time. Over the course of my 34 year teaching career, I have had the opportunity
to serve in a variety of roles and teach multiple grade levels - experiences that have shaped my
belief in the importance of relationship building, supporting the whole child and helping every
student reach their full potential.
After retiring 2 years ago, I knew that I could not walk away from teaching and I have continued
my passion for education by working as a substitute teacher. I have been happily married for 32
years to my Métis husband and together we have two amazing grown children - a son and a
daughter - who are both married and living wonderful lives. In my free time, I enjoy gardening
and spending quality time with family and friends.
I am extremely excited to join the incredible team of educators at Roots of Resilience Charter
School. I look forward to sharing my experience, enthusiasm, learning from my colleagues,
building meaningful relationships with students and families and continuing to grow as an
educator. I am especially eager to deepen my understanding and appreciation of Indigenous
cultures, perspectives and ways of knowing and to embrace opportunities to learn alongside the
school community. Together, I hope to contribute to a learning environment where every student
feels valued, supported and inspired to succeed and achieve their full potential.
