Wilson Bearhead

Elder

Elder Wilson Bearhead is Nakota, a member of the Wabamun Lake First Nation in Treaty 6 territory and the co-author of the Siha Tooskin Knows book series. Wilson has served as Chief in his own community, Grand Chief of the Confederacy of Treaty 6 as well as the Assembly of First Nations Alberta Regional Chief. Wilson was the first Elder in Residence for Edmonton Public Libraries, the Elder for Elk Island Public Schools, Edmonton Public Schools and Edmonton Catholic School. His work is always in service to children, families and communities and he has served in roles across the province of Albert sharing his cultural knowledge and teachings in a wide variety of fields of work including education, children’s services, health and homelessness.

Wilson is the recipient of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation Indigenous Elder Award among other honours. Today Wilson continues to work towards brighter futures for Indigenous children as he leads the Bill C-92 Legislation Development for Paul First Nation. Wilson loves to teach children of all backgrounds about his culture and ways of knowing. He is an Elder for Roots of Resilience Education Foundation, Parkland Schools, Elk Island Schools, offering cultural teachings and supporting children and families.
